So you want to work in animation…but you can’t draw? No problem! Maybe you’re coming non-entertainment profession or a non-media college background? Also not a problem! Whether you’re an aspiring writer, a development or current series executive, a production manager, or a producer, there is a path for you. Come learn about the wonderful world of animation, and where you might fit in it!
In this circle, you will learn the essentials of what it takes to get started in this area of the entertainment industry as a non-artist. You will hear from not only your mentor, but from other special guests (who are doing the above roles!) about their journeys and their advice on how to get started + how to keep moving forward in animation.
By the end of the term, you will:
- Understand the Animation Process – From development, to pre-production, through production, and to post-production, you’ll learn how an animated tv series and a feature film gets made, as well as what other departments and ancillary businesses support that content.
- Understand both the Artist + Non-Artist Roles in Animation – Learn the different job positions in this career (specifically non-artist ones), how one moves through them, and what it takes to get the job done.
- How to Get Interviews + Get Jobs – Know how to set yourself up to apply for and land jobs by creating strong resumes, cover letters, thank you letters, portfolios, etc. You’ll also have a clear picture of how recruiting works and what the job application process is like.
- How To Not Just Survive, But Thrive – Develop tools for managing the stresses and anxieties that come along with making the leap into the industry + staying in it.
Each mentee will also get a 1-hour 1:1 Zoom call with their mentor, where we can discuss your career goals, and develop a strategic plan for you to follow as you move forward.
Excited to see your application!
