Megan Kuntz
Growing up in Ohio, I received my BFA in Fine Arts at Miami University in Oxford, OH. After college I struggled to figure out what I wanted to do as a career. I moved to San Diego for a few years while working at Starbucks to see if I could get into the industry as a concept artist, but saw how competitive even entry level jobs were at the time. With me having a painting background, it was a difficult situation I found myself in..I really didn’t like computers but I knew I had to adapt- So I decided to go back to school to complete a one year program in Orlando for VFX.
In 2016 at 27 years old, I started my Visual Effects career as a Compositor in Vancouver, BC, and have gotten the chance to work on a lot of fun feature film projects, including: A Wrinkle in Time, Detective Pikachu, Skyscraper, Aquaman, Sonic, New Mutants, Prey, Pinocchio, and much more.
As I have gained more experience in the industry, I realized just how much I was never really told, and what to expect. I decided to put more energy into teaching women and other under-represented artists what you should know going into the world of VFX and Animation, and how to value your self-worth and remain strong and confident when the pressure starts to close in.
To be successful, you need balance and passion. But you shouldn’t have to figure it out by yourself.
