Hone Your Voice as an Animation Writer

Details

THIS CIRCLE IS PERFECT FOR

  • Recent grads
  • Anyone looking to pivot to writing within the industry.
  • Early career animation writers

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • You will have the opportunity to practice pitching an original idea to the group and also:
    • Write and revise an outline
    • Hone your point of view as a writer
    • Develop a writing practice that actually works for you

WHAT NOT TO EXPECT

  • Script formatting basics
  • Write a pilot script during sessions
  • Pizza (I’m sad about it, too)

CIRCLE DESCRIPTION

Want to make your scripts and samples stand out from the pile? Have strong ideas but aren’t sure how to simplify and express them on the page? Interested in other ways to get your work seen, published, and read while you’re looking to land your next animation writing gig? Then come join us!

This circle will take a holistic look at the craft and process of writing, as well as examine how various forms of writing can help make scripts stronger.

Topics will include:

  • Developing a personal pipeline and system to create a body of work
  • Creating sustainable writing goals and expectations
  • Writing exercises to explore strong character POV vs. having a strong POV as a writer
  • Pitching and collaborating in a writer’s room environment
  • Discussing the realities of being a writer and how to prepare yourself for the long haul
  • And so much more (some topics will adjust based on needs and interest)

Please note that while we will be discussing your pitches over the course of this circle, I will not be representing your pitch in front of any studio, representative, or production company. There are many factors that determine whether or not any pitch will ultimately be purchased or produced. While you will gain valuable knowledge, insight, and skills in this group, participation in this circle does not guarantee any particular outcome for your pitch.

Circle Leader

Cassie Soliday

Cassie Soliday loves to write character-driven comedies with heart that are joyfully weird! They are a freelance writer on the upcoming fever dream of a series My Magic Pet Morphile for Disney Junior and Moonbug. Previously, they spent 3 seasons as a Staff Writer on Puppy Dog Pals for Disney Junior and wrote multiple freelance episodes for Bugs Bunny Builders, Tom and Jerry Time for Warner Bros. Animation, Blippi Wonders for Moonbug, and the Little Stories Everywhere podcast for Wondery. They also sold and developed an original Unannounced Preschool Title for Cartoon Network and developed on a Legacy IP for Disney Junior.

Originally from the rural Midwest, Cassie moved to Chicago to study animation at Columbia College Chicago and improv and sketch comedy at the Second City and Annoyance theatres. A heartbeat later, they traded their tornado survival kit in for a wildfire/earthquake survival kit to follow their animated passions to sunny California.
