In a male-dominated department full of tech wizards, creating literal movie magic each day with seeming ease, it can be daunting to find your confidence as a woman in FX.
Between the lack of female team-mates or role models, the endless bits of knowledge you’re “supposed” to know (hint: no one knows it all), it’s no surprise if you suffer from imposter syndrome. Over the course of my career I’ve felt and dealt with it all, but have found the right personal balance to allow me to have a successful supervising career in (Oscar-winning!) FX. In this circle, we will work together to find ways of making positive changes to your mindset and habits, identifying individual strengths, and improving your confidence in both the long term and your day to day lives. In addition to the conversation in the group, we will also have guest speakers.
Though specifically aimed at people in FX, this circle is open to anyone suffering from imposter syndrome in visual effects.

Lisa Nolan is an FX Supervisor with DNEG Vancouver, whose greatest desire at work is to make the biggest and best explosions seen on film (and more begrudgingly, all the other bits that need doing). She spends her spare time staring at the ocean and occasionally wondering how to simulate the same thing, before rightly going back to her book.
With the aid of a fine arts degree and 13 years experience in VFX, she has supervised FX for the Oscar-winning Dune: Part One, Uncharted, and currently, Disney’s The Haunted Mansion.
