WIA CLASS OF 2020 SHOWCASE FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Any student from both undergraduate and graduate level graduating in the year of 2020 can submit their senior/graduating films regardless of what type of degree they are receiving.

No! All undergraduate or graduate students receiving a degree in the year 2020 are encouraged to apply. (However, if you would like to join as an official WIA student member, you can find the information here.)

Yes! The entire Class of 2020 has been affected by COVID-19, so WIA welcomes all class of 2020 graduates to participate in this special program.

Yes! Even though we would love to see your finished films, we understand certain technical difficulties are not easy to avoid due to COVID-19 with limited/no access to the normal classrooms and labs. For films that aren’t fully finished, please follow the detailed Submission Instructions to include a short paragraph in your film description. However, please note that only finished films will go on the film selection process to be considered for inclusion in the Class of 2020 Best Films Presented by WIA.

All the jurors are US-based, so we require all the film submissions to have English subtitles to increase your chance of being named to the Class of 2020 Best Films Presented by WIA.

Sorry… no. This special program is to showcase the senior/graduation films only. You are, however, strongly encouraged to link your portfolio and reel in your film description in addition to your contact information. This would help the recruiters who are interested in your work to get in touch with you.

Sorry… no. We only accept Vimeo links for this program. The Vimeo basic account is free of charge and you can sign up here. You do not need to upgrade to Pro if you do not need the storage space or file upload.

You do not have to password protect your film, but if you do, it’s totally okay! We understand many films will be entering festivals so you can absolutely password protect your film on Vimeo. Please make sure you share the password with us so we can include your film to the WIA Showcase for the recruiter’s viewing. If the password is not included in the film submission, we will not accept your submission.

You only need to submit your film once even if it is a collaboration, so it is incredibly important to list everyone’s responsibilities and contact information in the film description. Make sure to communicate with your collaborators that you’ve submitted so we don’t receive duplicate submissions. Please follow the detailed Submission Instructions.

WIA will ask all the participating recruiters to reach out to the student filmmaker/artist they are interested in connecting with directly. You can look into your Vimeo statistics for the view count.

WIA is working on a list of recruiters as a resource to share with WIA members. When the list is ready, you can feel free and are highly encouraged to connect with them.

This Showcase will close on November 1, 2020.

We would still love your film submission so please contact [email protected] so we can help you with the submission process.
