Viviana Palacios

Mentorship Lead – WIA Vancouver

Viv graduated with a BFA in computer animation and a minor in photography from Ringling College of Art and Design. Hired before graduation by veteran visual effects house VIFX in Los Angeles, she began her career as an FX TD on feature films. Her experience includes work at Sony Imageworks (USA & Canada), Comedy Central’s South Park, Rhythm & Hues Studios, ILM, CafeFX, Rising Sun Pictures, Image Engine, Animal Logic (Sydney & Vancouver), Method Studios Vancouver, The Embassy VFX, Prime Focus World, Scanline VFX, Cinesite Animation, and Bardel Entertainment.

She is the founder of TheScratchpost.com, an artist resource e-zine that lived online for 17 years, until she decided to move it over to social media in June 2014. After 20 years of being in the film industry, she decided to change the scenery to work in the games industry and was one of the three lighters that worked in the cinematics team for Gears of War 4 at THE COALITION.

While between film projects, she freelanced as a designer for various web companies. Most notably, as the Sr. Designer at Magnet Interactive West on the award winning website for auto manufacturers Nissan and Infiniti, and at Deutsch LA as an Art Director for clients such as Coors, Mitsubishi, TGI Fridays, Mexicali, and Real California Cheese.

From 2014 to 2016, she was the website design alchemist and contributing artist for the Rascal Art Event, an annual Vancouver-based event that showcased personal art created by those working within the creative industries. She is also the Vancouver Chapter Mentorship Lead for WIA (Women in Animation), teaches portfolio classes at Think Tank Training Centre and has been a mentor for WIA and her alma mater Ringling College of Art and Design, to help guide new talent interested in the VFX industry.

She recently has changed her career path yet again, to be a Sr. Recruiter, offering fresh opportunities to help artists grow in their careers, and is currently looking to build amazing teams for animation and film studios.

Viv lives in Vancouver, BC with her husband and 2 cats, Gryffin and Gimli.
