CIRCLE DESCRIPTION

Do you want to work as an artist in television animation but have no idea where to start? Are you worried that since you don’t have any close contacts in your network who work in animation, you’re doomed never to break in? Well, I was where you were once. I was an artist with decent skills but no network. I managed to break in, and I’m sure I can help you along your journey as well. Even if you don’t know anyone in the industry yet or consider yourself too introverted to meet anyone, this circle can help you.

In this circle, you will learn the essentials of what it takes to get started as an artist in television animation. By the end of the term, you will:

  • Understand the Career Pipeline and how various jobs fit into the production process
  • the path one might take from first gig to full-time artist.
  • Know how to set yourself up to apply for and land jobs by creating strong resumes, cover letters, thank you letters, portfolios, etc. You’ll also have a clear picture of how recruiting works and the job application process
  • Learn how to show up professionally so that recruiters and bosses take notice of you
  • Build networking skills that can help lead you to new opportunities or supportive friendships
  • Develop tools for managing the stresses and anxieties that come along with making the leap into the industry

Hello! My name is Sam Hawkins, and I am a 2D artist in the animation industry. My professional journey includes roles such as Character Designer, Assistant Character Designer, Color Designer, and Retake Animator, among other responsibilities.

Noteworthy productions I have contributed to include Pantheon, Chicago Party Aunt, The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy, and StuGo. Studios I’ve done work for include Titmouse Inc., Netflix, Amazon, Marvel, Disney, A24, and AMC+.

Outside of work, I enjoy playing video games and collaborating on animation and game projects with friends. Writing is another passion of mine.
