FAQS

GENERAL FAQS

What is your organization’s mission?
We bring together the global animation community to empower and advocate for people of underrepresented gender identities in the art, technology, production, and business of animation, inspiring excellence and justice in all facets of the industry.

Where does the money go when I donate to your organization?
Your generous donations support WIA’s ability to offer programs designed to provide high-quality, consistent learning opportunities and tools for members to advance their careers. Through these programs – including our flagship WIA Mentorship Program, the WIA Leadership Institute, our Career Resource Center, and the Stories X Women program – WIA is actively breaking down the barriers faced by creatives of underrepresented gender identities within the industry.

Who runs the organization?
WIA is governed by our passionate board of directors — a group of experienced industry veterans dedicated to supporting and advocating for women and people of underrepresented gender identities in animation. Their vision comes to life through the hard work of an equally dedicated staff who are experts in their fields.

Do you only support artists in animation?
The realm of animation encompasses a wide range of roles with artists and creators at the center of every effort to make images come alive through film, series, VFX, gaming, and other artistic endeavors. We support people of underrepresented gender in every aspect of the art, technology, production, and business of this vibrant industry.

What do you mean when you say “people of underrepresented gender identities?”
WIA recognizes gender is non-binary and intersects with every other aspect of identity. As an organization that advocates for gender justice, we identify people of underrepresented gender identities as women, including transgender women  (people who identify as women despite their gender assigned at birth); non-binary people; those who do not identify as exclusively male or female but may identify as both, neither, or some combination of the two; and those who are otherwise marginalized because of their gender identity.

What is your refund policy for memberships?
WIA memberships are considered donations, and our donations are non-refundable unless there is a technical/website error. If you believe your membership was renewed due to a technical/website error, please submit a support ticket.
