THIS CIRCLE IS PERFECT FOR

  • People who are interested in becoming a director or who are currently directing and want to further their education
  • People with more than 3 years of experience (not necessarily directing but in animation in general)
  • People who are looking to move in to directing

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Overview of the animation 3D pipeline and the director’s role in each phase of production
  • How to create and pitch an idea that resonates
  • How to direct animators, build a story reel, and work with sound and score
  • The skills you’ll need to be a leader 
  • And so much more

WHAT NOT TO EXPECT

  • Developing fundamental animation skills
  • Creating a project to pitch

Early Career (3-5 yrs of experience)
Mid Level (6-10 yrs of experience)
Upper Level (10+ yrs of experience)

  • Evaluating Ideas: How to determine what makes a strong idea and how to develop it into a solid concept
  • Pitching: What makes a good pitch, what elements to focus on, and how to present your idea effectively
  • Story Reels: The process of creating a story reel, understanding the different roles involved, and key aspects to pay attention to
  • Production: What it means to go into layout, the intricacies of production, and how to manage the workflow
  • Post-Production: Navigating post-production to ensure a polished final product
  • Work-Life Balance: Tips for maintaining a healthy balance between your professional and personal life
  • Building Confidence: Strategies to boost your confidence as a director and lead your team effectively

Kristen Lester

Kristen Lester is an director, story artist, and writer. She made her directorial debut in Purl for which she won Siggraph’s Best in Show award in 2019. Lester is currently working on a feature film in development at Pixar and is excited to mentor and guide folks who are interested in becoming directors themselves.
