CIRCLE DESCRIPTION

Do you want to break into the industry but have no idea where to start? Are you trying to get that first job as a junior artist or bridge the gap between school/training and the professional industry? Do you dream of helping create new classic films or beloved TV series? Are you looking forward to seeing your name in the credits one day? Then this circle is for you.

In this circle, you will learn the essentials of what it takes to get started in this part of the industry. By the end of the term, you will:

  • Understand the Pipeline and the different job positions, how you move through them, and what it takes to get the job done
  • Know how to set yourself up to apply for and land jobs by creating strong resumes, cover letters, thank you letters, portfolios, etc. You’ll also have a clear picture of how recruiting works and the job application process
  • Learn how to show up professionally so that recruiters and bosses take notice of you
  • Develop tools for managing the stresses and anxieties that come with making the leap into the industry

Circle Leader

Amy Smith

Amy has worked in talent-related roles within the visual effects industry across the UK and Canada for many years. In each role, she was responsible for collaborating with schools, colleges, and universities to provide career guidance and support educators with content.

Amy is a non-executive Director of Access: VFX, an industry organization working to improve the diversity of the visual effects industry. She is also part of the steering group of the Next Gen Skills Academy, which launched a Level 3 Diploma in Games, Animation, and VFX Skills, and she took responsibility for working with NextGen to develop, launch, and promote VFX apprenticeships. Recently, Amy has completed work as Chair of the T-Level panel for Media, Broadcast and Production. The panel was responsible for providing an employer perspective on the post-16 education landscape in the UK.
