CIRCLE DESCRIPTION
This circle is designed for aspiring 3D and VFX artists looking to gain the foundational knowledge and skills to break into the industry. Whether you’re fresh out of school or transitioning into Look Dev from another role, this circle will give you the confidence and tools to navigate the professional landscape.
Together, we’ll work on:
- Understanding the Industry: Learn about the pipeline and how Look Dev fits into the broader animation and VFX workflows
- Crafting Professional Materials: Tune up your resume, cover letter, and LinkedIn profile to reflect your skills and ambitions
- Networking and Building Connections: Discover how to build meaningful relationships in the industry, from networking events to online interactions
- Sharpening Your Interview Skills: Practice answering common questions, talking about your work, and presenting yourself with confidence
- Finding Your Footing: Gain insights into the different roles and career paths within Look Development and how to carve out your unique niche
Applicants should submit a resume and links to a portfolio or samples of their work. Donāt worry about being judgedāthis isnāt an audition. This is about helping your mentor understand your starting point so she can tailor the circle to meet you where you are. By the end of this experience, you’ll be equipped with actionable strategies to take the next steps in your Look Dev journey. Letās get you ready to shine!

Circle Leader
Heather Brown
Heather Brown is a distinguished 3D shading specialist with over 20 years of experience in the entertainment industry. Her work is featured throughout acclaimed franchises such as the Marvel universe, the Star Wars galaxy, Alien: Romulus, Cocaine Bear, Ice Age, Rio, āŖHorton Hears a Whoā¬, Epic, The Peanuts Movie, Ferdinand, and Spies in Disguise. She currently serves as a Look Development Lead at Weta FX and is an active member of ACM Siggraph and WIA.
Throughout her career, Heather has been instrumental in optimizing workflows for procedural look development, with an emphasis on achieving photorealistic shading and procedural fabric rendering in high-end film production. Her expertise spans visual effects, 3D feature animation, live-action, and post-production, where she has collaborated with teams around the globe to create intricate procedural surface textures for diverse environments and characters, from ancient forests of the thawing ice age to a fleet of special agents and melting bronze statues, to viscera and decaying comic book villains.
Before embarking on her 3D digital arts career, Heather spent a decade in live-action TV production, advertising, and media agencies in New York City. She holds a degree from Syracuse University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts. A passionate maker, Heather enjoys designing costumes and props and translating them into IRL incarnations, knitting, sewing, and cosplays, blending creativity with technical expertise as she continues to push the boundaries of visual storytelling.
