CIRCLE DESCRIPTION

Are you early in your animation production career and ready to build a strong foundation for long-term success? Have you gotten your first, or maybe even second, job and realized that the skills that helped you break into a job aren’t necessarily those that will help you build a longstanding career? Are you ready to learn more about what it takes to prepare for the exciting marathon that is your animation production management career? Then, this circle might be the right circle for you.

In this mentorship circle, we’ll discuss:

  • Techniques for taking clear and effective notes–and what to do when you’re called to step in for another department you don’t usually handle
  • Understanding your current duties fully and how to bring your best skills to these tasks
  • Continue looking for successes in your day-to-day work and add these skills to your resume to present yourself as a strong candidate when you’re ready to move
  • Strategies for building relationships and networking within your current company
  • Leadership skills to practice and how to look for opportunities to take on higher-level responsibilities
  • Understanding how departments fit together and how to find your best fit as you navigate through various roles
  • Tips for achieving a successful work-life balance
  • And much more!

This mentorship is ideal for individuals who have landed their first production job in animation and want to establish a successful, long-term career in the industry.

Please note the bullet points above in the section labeled “What NOT to Expect”; we will NOT cover those areas.

Our sessions will be highly collaborative, and we encourage all questions—nothing is off-limits!

Join us every Thursday at 6:30 PM PST for an hour of engaging and informative discussions. We look forward to helping you grow and succeed in your production management journey.

Circle Leader

Tiana Knights

Tiana Knights is a Production Supervisor currently working at DreamWorks Animation LLC. She studied live-action Filmmaking in college and started her career in live-action as a Production Assistant. After landing her first live-action job, Tiana quickly realized that she preferred the workflows of the animation industry and the structure that it provided. Tiana started at DreamWorks in September of 2019 and worked her way up to Production Supervisor in only 3 years at the company. Tiana was lucky enough to have worked in almost every department in the pipeline and has a deep understanding of how all departments communicate and feed each other.

In her downtime, Tiana enjoys training other production staff. This year, she is starting to branch out into mentoring and is very excited to be a WIA mentor for the Fall round of 2024.
