CIRCLE DESCRIPTION
For writers, directors, producers, artists, and up-and-coming development execs, anyone looking to bring projects to life, an understanding of intellectual property is crucial. While original ideas are still being made, IP is more popular than ever and continues to have a huge impact on the industry. If you want to know more about how to work with IP, then this circle might be the right fit for you.Â
This Circle will demystify IP adaptation and creation at an entry-level understanding. From novels to podcasts, comics to video games, we’ll explore a range of mediums and genres that I’ve worked with during my career as a development executive. We’ll discuss why studios depend so much on IP, how IP is sourced and dive into the development process, focusing on what is required to create a TV show or film from source material.
Mentees will also have the chance to discuss what we can learn from the successes and failures of fan-favorite properties.
This circle is designed to give you an overview of the IP process and will set you up to know how to start working with IP yourself. Please note this circle is not a place to receive specific legal advice or to develop your own pitch.
