Rhona Rees
Co-Lead Events – WIA Vancouver
Rhona is an award-winning actor, writer and director with more than 27 years’ experience in the film industry. She enjoyed a busy career as a child actor in Australia before moving to Vancouver, BC in 2012. She’s well known for her work as a performer on-camera and behind the mic, but in the last decade she’s answered a calling to tell her own stories. She co-created the Crazy8s winning short comedy Shuttlecock in 2018 and followed that by writing, starring in and executive producing FREYA, a sci-fi short which was funded by the Harold Greenberg fund and the NFB. FREYA has won multiple awards at film festivals around the world, and she is currently developing it into a feature. She made her directorial debut with her next short film Call Button, which made the Crazy8s top 13 in 2021 and recently received a commendation at the Women over 50 Film Festival in the UK. In 2020 she developed an original 2D animated series with co-creator Megan Russell at WildBrain and in 2022 she started working as a voice-director for clients including Mattel and Nintendo. Rhona is also a coach and mentor and in 2020 she co-created ‘Mistressclass’ with Adrienne Lindsay – a free webinar series for people to learn about the film industry from women and gender diverse folks. Rhona’s mission as a storyteller is to produce art that is both amusing and thought provoking for audiences of all ages and genders, with a focus on feminist themes and female-driven casts.
