Supervisor: Communications Manager
Type: Volunteer
Location: 100% remote
Minimum Commitment: 1-3 hours per week, must commit to at least 12 months of service; can be done outside of normal business hours
About the Role
We’re looking for a volunteer Storyteller/Writer to add to our small but dedicated team to assist in the development and sharing of content that inspires and excites WIA community members, donors, and other stakeholders and uplifts WIA’s overall brand and mission. A successful WIA volunteer is self-motivated, organized, inclusive, flexible, and responsible. They’ll thrive with a sense of humor, a passion for the mission, and good judgment.

Volunteer Responsibilities
- Interview subjects (members, mentors, donors, staff, etc.) and gather, write, and submit the WIA Story for approval. WIA Stories can include Snapshots, Spotlights, Blog posts, and short pieces for various outreach email campaigns.
- Work with the Communications Team responsible for archiving and maintaining story media (verbal, written, photos) in a story bank that is searchable.
- Maintain regular communication with the WIA Communications Team to ensure deadlines are met, and campaigns are successfully completed and launched.
- Assist with copyediting of outgoing materials as needed
- Produce six WIA stories a year

- Strong written and verbal communication

- Working proficiency with the Google Suite
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to be discreet and maintain confidential information
- Full professional proficiency in English, written and verbal, is required
- Top candidates for the role will
- have demonstrated interviewing and writing experience, including writing samples
- have a professional background, education, or demonstrated interest in Animation, Visual Effects, or Gaming
- be able to effectively connect their work with WIA’s mission
